Where It All Began

Tracing My Family History Through Time

I began tracing my family in 1982 and I am still finding relevant records today. A family tree is never complete. It is an ongoing process which grows every time you find a new record relating to someone in your tree.

Many records have been made available online, however there are many more records which have not been digitised or indexed, and are only available to view in person in archives and local record offices. My time is spent searching through the records held in archives, trying to locate records not found elsewhere. For me, finding a name or a signature on a document provides proof that an ancestor was present in a particular location at a particular time. Archived documents tell a hidden story of how our ancestors lived, and my aim is to bring the evidence together so that the story of an ancestor can be told.

There are various ways I can help: if you are looking for a report that outlines the members of your family, then a family tree package may suit your needs. If you already have a family tree and would like specific research undertaken, perhaps to locate a school record, a court case or occupational records, then I can tailor the research to suit your needs.

I have an interest in researching itinerant families such as gypsies and travellers. Researching itinerant families can be time-consuming and records, where they exist, are difficult to locate. I can help.

I also have an interest in heraldry. If you need some help or advice on anything related to heraldry, please get in touch.

If you have already written your family history and need editorial help, I offer copy-editing, proofreading and indexing services. I am qualified in all three disciplines and I work to high standards. I will help you to produce a high-quality document, whether it’s a book, article, dissertation or report, please contact me for a quote.

Researching family history has always been my passion. I love nothing more than searching for an elusive record, and the feeling of achievement when I find something of relevance. We can learn so much about ourselves by looking into the lives of our ancestors, and bringing their stories to life.
